TEFL / TESL Certificate Program

  • Some advantages of TEFL course at VLC/Guadalajara:

Curriculum: You receive 4 weeks of intensive training — 140 hours total, including 68 hours of practice teaching and observation. You observe real classes and teach real students in VLC's established adult English courses and in our primary school, working under two experienced mentors. VLC's TEFL instructors are all native speakers of English — other area schools don’t offer you this. Maximum class size is 15 (usually classes are half that), so you get personalized instruction. Courses start at the beginning of every month.

    Price:
Compare our fees with the competition. A reasonable course fee makes VLC/Guadalajara an economical option.

    Facilities:
Vancouver Language Centre/Guadalajara is in a quieter part of Guadalajara, 15 minutes by bus from the central cathedral. Our two-story, modern school has 20 bright classrooms, a central garden, cafeteria, Internet-connected computers for your use and a wireless network for your laptop. VLC/Guadalajara was founded in 1997 and has graduated an average of 47 TEFL teachers a year. We have 300–400 students a month in our English courses and our bilingual primary school has about 100 youngsters. (We also offer Japanese, French and Spanish courses, and TEFL grads may take a free Spanish course.)

Certification: Upon passing, you are awarded VLC/Guadalajara's course diploma, approved by Mexico's Secretary of Education (SEP). Optionally, you may take the Cambridge TKT exam at an area institution and receive that certificate.

Job Placement: Many of our TEFL course graduates are invited to teach in VLC’s established adult English courses. Your TEFL instructor also gives you resume advice and helps you find other teaching positions in Guadalajara.

After hours: You can participate — often for free — in our schedule of activities: a visit to the Cabañas institute with its famed murals by Jose Clemente Orozco, an excursion to nearby pre-Hispanic pyramids at Guachimontones, a visit to a club for salsa dancing, an opening at one of the city's many art galleries, Spanish Conversation Club on Fridays. VLC/Guadalajara TEFL grads may take two weeks (20 hours) of free Spanish lessons after the course.

    Homestay
: VLC/Guadalajara can place you with a reasonably-priced, homestay family near the school. Hotels and posadas are also available.
