What VLC/Guadalajara’s TEFL students say
 |
The course
Did the course meet your expectations? Yes. I learned more
than I thought I would.?It was very intensive and interesting. It was fun sharing
experiences with the three other students in the course.
How prepared to work as a professional English teacher do you now feel?
I think I’m very prepared. I'm looking forward to it. I was nervous
about teaching, but I got over it during my 11 hours of student teaching.
What were the most interesting or useful things you studied? We got
a lot of practical information and a lot of grammar training too. The most useful
lessons were about the verb tenses — I didn’t have a clue what they
were.
Was there any course content that you would like to have been covered
— or covered in more depth? Not really. Given the one month time
frame, I don’t think anything else could have been fit in. A lot was covered.
How would you describe VLC’s course to anyone considering it?
It’s pretty intensive. If you're serious about being a TEFL teacher, this
is the place to learn. It’s a demanding course, but very substantial and
it offers great practice for future teachers.

Mentors
Did your mentors give you encouragement and constructive criticism?
Yes. I really needed the encouragement and feedback I got plenty from
both my mentors.
How useful was this feedback? Very useful. I needed them to
tell me what to do differently and they did. They were happy to answer my questions.
Lindsey H., from San Antonio,
Texas:
"My background is in law, and I had trained in Mexico City. I knew Guadalajara
was a great city with friendly people. I chose VLC/Guadalajara because of its
small class size, the good price and the good pace. Now that I've finished,
I've accepted a job here at VLC. So far, I love the students — they're
fun and eager to learn. The course was a refreshing change of pace and really
gives a person a new perspective. Helping others learn and speak English gives
me a great sense of accomplishment."
