VEC Business Internship Program - English Language Courses at Vancouver English Centre

The objective of the Business Spanish program at Vancouver Language Centre in Guadalajara, Mexico is to provide International SSL students with the necessary tools to succeed in doing business. The business Spanish program involves interview and telephone techniques, business meetings and negotiating focusing on Latin American business culture, on-the-job communication skills and business writing. Emphasis is placed on helping students improve their Spanish communication skills. At the end of the course, you will be able to fill out receipts, tax forms, understand the Mexican legal processes, write your own resume, formal letters, memoranda and many more valuable skills.

The VLC Business Program runs year-round and is available to International SSL students who have advanced Spanish language abilities.

Business Spanish program content:


WEEK 1

  • LESSON 1: Business world. Vocabulary
  • LESSON 2: Business world. Vocabulary and practice
  • LESSON 3: Business world. IMSS (Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social) Private hospitals, insurance companies.
  • LESSON 4: Types of commercial letters. Visit preparation.
  • LESSON 5: Visit a company

WEEK 2

  • LESSON 1: Commercial letter. Practice and correction.
  • LESSON 2: Curriculum Vitae: Preparation. Different types. Filling out a job application form.
  • LESSON 3: Curriculum Vitae: Personal information, academic education, job experience, others, goals, etc.
  • LESSON 4: Personal Interview: Preparing a job offer suitable for each student: What you offer and what the employer wants (requirements). Job interview recommendations. Prepare a job interview, most frequently asked questions.
  • LESSON 5: Personal interview (dynamic). Visit a company.

WEEK 3

  • LESSON 1: Job quality. Psychological test: How is your relationship with the co-workers? Debate.
  • LESSON 2: Cultural issues. Use of: TU vs. USTED. Simulated situations: (different places: a restaurant, a bus, a bank, etc.). Grammar note: Direct and indirect use.
  • LESSON 3: Cultural Issues. How to dress in Mexico? Interviews to students.
  • LESSON 4: Test: Are you organised? Debate. Visit preparation. Questionnaire.
  • LESSON 5: Visit a company.

WEEK 4

  • LESSON 1 & 2: Business definition. Group dynamic.
  • LESSON 3 & 4: Phone calls. Prepare a visit.
  • LESSON 5: Conclusion of the business course and final questions.
