Transportation in Mexico
City Buses Guadalajara has many different city bus companies, ranging from standard buses for about $3.50 pesos, to very comfortable, well-maintained buses with air conditioning and televisions for about $7 pesos per trip. Although buses do not follow a strict time schedule, they pass by about every 5-10 minutes on most routes. The majority of bus companies do not have designated bus stops or stations but will pick up passengers waiting on the street corner. To catch a bus, step out from the curb and signal to the bus driver. Be sure to get on quickly and hold on tight, as buses do not stop for long.
Taxis Taxis are reliable and also very inexpensive, costing from $20 - 80 pesos to go anywhere within the city. You should always ask the taxi driver to use his meter, or "taximetro" to ensure a fair fare. You can hail a taxi from the street or find a taxi at one of many "sitios" (taxi stands) in the city.
National Buses
To travel from city to city, you will need to take a bus from the new central bus station, called "La Nueva Central Camionera". Tickets for buses can be purchased in advance at most travel agencies or directly at the bus station. Long-distance buses vary in quality. When purchasing a ticket, remember to ask for "first-class". Popular first class bus lines include ETN, Primera Plus and Futura. The price is very reasonable, and the service is excellent, including movies and a snack!
